About Soel Design

The word Soel comes from the first 4 letters in my last name (Soelberg) and is pronounced like the word "soul." Soel Design was initially created to display my portfolio for future employers. It was much easier to send someone a link instead of emailing them large file sizes of all the projects I had been apart of. After displaying my work online for awhile I started getting many inquires to do freelance work. I then expanded the site to cater to such request. Now the site has evolved even further into a place where I can write articles and display useful information for visitors. I commonly write about the web, graphic design, technology, technical writing, and anything else of interest.

About Me

I am a graphic/web designer and writer living in Utah. Currently I am a senior studying scientific and technical writing at Utah State University. I have been designing for print and the web for about 5 years. I got started in graphic design after discovering Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator from one of my classes in college. After seeing what could be done on a computer I quickly changed my major from photography to graphic design and received my Associates degree in computer aided graphics.

After completing my degree in graphic design I wanted to learn how to write the content that goes along with the visual presentation. Many of the documents and materials I was designing were instructional and needed to communicate clearly to the user. I also found that all websites needed to be extremely usable for the users to be able to communicate any sort of message effectively. The skills needed to accomplish usability in design lead me to technical writing. I find that a lot of my graphic design skills transfer over to my writing courses and vice-versa.

In my free time (which is rapidly disappearing) I participate in activities like rock/ice climbing, camping, snowboarding, hiking, photography, wakeboarding, and anything else that gets me outdoors. Utah has provided me a diverse environment to do the activities I love. I can go snowboarding in the Wasatch mountains 15 minutes from my house one day and then drive 2 hours south to Moab and be climbing in the hot desert sun the day after. What more could anyone want?!

Enjoying...
