Summer is not over. Let's stretch it with these colorful, exotic and sublime pieces of furniture which are among my favorites this season and take us around the world.
Marni Baullhaus surprised us with their home collection designed exclusively for the Milan Design Week. Chairs, chaise longues and rocking chairs sit alongside numerous small tables, lamps and vases made of metal, wood and hand-woven pvc cord in brilliant color combinations. The items have all been made in Colombia by a group of women who have gained independence and freedom through work.

My next favorite is the Traveler Outdoor collection designed by Stephen Burks for Roche Bobois. A colorful display of woven outdoor furniture. Initially, there were two versions of the armchair in 2015, the American and the European, and now they’ve explored Asia for the latest incarnation. With tubular, lacquered steel structures and woven colored cords, the newest pieces were inspired by Indonesian craftsmanship.

Let's now move to Senegal in Africa with pieces that were designed by American designer Marc Thorpe for Moroso. The Husk chair and the Baobab table and stools were presented at the Milan design week for Moroso as part of their M'afrique Collection. This collaboration was meant to please me as Moroso is one of my favorite design brand for its originality and Marc Thorpe one of my most inspiring professors at NYU interior design program.
Their proportions and colors as well as materials are so original that they define the space they are in. The Husk chair was inspired by the shape of a corn husk and made in Senegal by local craftsmen using colorful polyethylene fishing net threads. The baobab table and stools set is also using the same materials to create colorful African patterns. The shape of these pieces is obviously inspired by the baobab tree and its large rounded trunk. The Baobab set will be available from September.

Finally, I small clin d'oeil to the Shore Rug round weave outdoor rug. These rugs are the perfect accent pieces with some serious technical credentials. Each Shore Rug is handmade and unique, developed closely with silicone specialists in the heart of England’s historic weaving industry and woven entirely by hand in London. They are fun looking and have a foot massage effect while standing on them.
